About Samantha

Samantha has been working in the legal field for over seventeen years and in the area of trusts and estates for over fourteen years. Samantha believes that her clients deserve compassionate, aggressive, and transparent legal representation. No matter the case type, Samantha takes a holistic and tailored approach to each matter. Ultimately, it is Samantha’s belief that successful legal representation hinges upon assisting clients in making decisions about what matters most: family, community, health, and finances.

Samantha represents clients with a wide variety of personal and financial situations in California and Washington states in the areas of estate planning, trust administration, probate, conservatorships, guardianships, parentage, surrogacy, artificial reproduction, contracts, and real estate. Samantha also consults for government and private entities in various types of highly complex matters, in addition to conducting legislative review for submittal at the state and federal level.

Samantha attended the University of the Pacific for undergraduate studies, where she completed her undergraduate degree in three years, while playing two sports on a full division one athletic scholarship. Samantha then attended Monterey College of Law and was the law school’s youngest graduate since the school’s inception in 1972, as well as one of Santa Cruz County’s youngest ever bar admitted attorneys. Out of law school Samantha worked as a new attorney at a boutique trusts and estates law firm in Downtown Monterey, CA. In 2013, Samantha and Joel Busch, opened BUSCH | FARREN, LLP, a successful civil transactional law firm in Aptos, California. Joel retired in 2021 and Samantha founded SAMANTHA FARREN LAW. In 2022, Samantha expanded her practice to include parentage, surrogacy and artificial reproductive technology (“ART”) law and became licensed to practice law in the State of Washington, as well as becoming a DRPA Certified Mediator through University of California at Davis.

Samantha is a third generation Santa Cruz County, California resident and lives in Capitola with her husband and their two children. Being a mother is the source of greatest joy and pride for Samantha, and was something that did not initially come easily. After experiencing years of infertility and loss, she and her husband ventured through IVF to eventually find their way to parenthood. While navigating the isolating and heartbreaking path to parenthood, Samantha made it a personal and professional goal to assist people legally in becoming parents.

Samantha is an avid amateur home chef, interior designer, and “plant lady.” She and her family enjoy spending time at the beach in Santa Cruz, at their family home in Mount Shasta, as well as soaking in the beauty of the West Puget Sound and exploring the Pacific Northwest.
